Drunk Fan Forgot He Legally Changed His Name To Celine Dion

A bar worker in the U.K. legally changed his name to Celine Dion after a night of drinking and watching one of the diva’s concerts online.

Dion said that he drank quite a bit during Christmas and fell asleep while streaming the Canadian Celine Dion. Several days later, he got the paperwork in the mail that said that he had legally changed his name to Celine Dion.

Tier 4 is the least of my worries – I’ve just got home to some post. Apparently, at some point over Christmas, I’ve had one too many vinos and legally changed my name to Celine Dion! after a few drinks.”

He believes that, while he was drunk, he went online, filled out the form to change his name, and paid the 89 GBP ($120 U.S.) fee and then forgot about it when he woke up.

“I walked in from work and there was a big white envelope with ‘do not bend’ written across it,” he recounted. “I nearly passed out in my kitchen when I opened it.”

Dion posted about his name change on Facebook and local media picked up the story. He was later on This Morning, a morning show in the U.K., where he talked about his name change.

The Sun, a U.K. tabloid, ran a punny headline with the story: “What have I Dion?”

He says that he’s getting used to being Celine Dion.

But having the same name as a famous québécoise diva has its drawbacks. “I’m just praying I don’t get pulled over by the police for anything – that could get awkward,” he said.

He’s also worried about how he’s going to “tell the HR department at work that I need to change my email footer!?” Dion says that he’s “not rushing” to change his name back.

This isn’t the first time Dion has had so much to drink that he blacked out and then did something regrettable. According to his Twitter feed, he ordered an Elsa tribute performer to give him a private concert at his house when he was drunk this past November.

In another tweet, he said he ordered a snow machine on Amazon.
