Brittney Griner Reunited With Her Loved Ones After Release

Brittney Griner is spending time with her loved ones upon her return to the U.S. The WNBA star has been reunited with someone who lovingly calls the athlete her "sister," as seen in a new photo that surfaced online following her release from a Russian prison.

On Wednesday, December 14, J Roy, a.k.a. Jay Roy, shared a photo of her posing with Brittney on her Instagram page. The woman stood on a chair to match the basketball player's height, who stood with her two hands clasped over the lower abdomen.

The 32-year-old looked in good shape as she dressed casually in a black Nike jacket and matching shorts. She completed her look with white socks, black-and-white sneakers, and glasses. "Reunited, the wait is over ……to be continued #sister #family," the woman captioned the image.

Brittney was released in a prisoner swap on Thursday, December 8, after being detained in Russia since February 17 for carrying hashish oil in her luggage to a Moscow airport. The person sent back to Russia is notorious arms dealer Viktor Bout, known as "The Merchant of Death."

The following day, she touched down on U.S. soil. She was seen getting off a private jet in San Antonio at around 5:40 A.M. ET.

After Brittney's arrival, White House National Security Council Communications Coordinator John Kirby told TODAY of her condition: "She was in very, very good spirits when she got off the plane and appeared to be in good health."

On Sunday, she returned to a basketball court for the first time in almost ten months for a light workout at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, where she was taken upon her return to the U.S. Her agent Lindsay Kagawa Colas told ESPN that her first act was a dunk.

Despite her apparent interest in basketball, Brittney isn't ready to say when or if she plans to return to her WNBA career with the Phoenix Mercury. "If she wants to play, it will be for her to share. She has the holidays to rest and decide what's next without any pressure," Lindsay said. "She's doing well and seems to have endured this incredibly."
