'Bridgerton's Golda Rosheuvel Is a Blessed, Proud Black, Gay Actor

Bridgerton is one of the hottest shows of the year, and it’s in no small part to the iconic and powerful Queen Charlotte.

Golda Rosheuvel has been one of our favorite monarchs this year, playing the queen on the hit Netflix period drama. And she’s more than aware of how important the role is.

In an interview with Page Six, Rosheuvel talked about what an honor and privilege it’s been to play a queen on a hit series especially as a Black woman and a queer woman. “For a long time now, stories had been told by the privileged, and I think it’s time that the door has opened,” she told the site.

Rosheuvel specifically mentioned Shonda Rhimes, Tyler Perry, Oprah Winfrey, and Ryan Coogler as some of the Black creators who are opening doors for people of color in Hollywood. Rhimes is the creator of Bridgerton.
